Melaka

Melaka and Penang were awarded World Heritage status this year (2009), and due to this , the hotel and all other prices shot up by 100 %. A room costing Rm 50 is now Rm 100 +.
We made a booking at Hotel Puri and checked in on the 06 March 2009.
We started from KL after lunch, it took us about 2 hours to drive to Melaka. ( 2 - 4 PM )

We stayed for 2 nights.

This is the lobby, very chinese traditional style.

There is a chinese bed at the lobby and we took a photo sitting on it.

Our room has 3 beds.

Attached bath room.

And included breakfast for 3.

The cost was some RM 500 + for 2 nights.

There is a SPA facility too.

Food in Melaka is of many variety and choices.

The chicken rice is prepared in ball form, we tried on one of the shop and I personally found the taste was very much reduced. As the rice was rolled into ball shape, the rice became a paste and lost it's flavour.

After the meal, we tried the durian chandol. This is one of the special drinks that was strongly recommended. ( Especially during hot weather )

The cost was some RM 5 per bowl.

Another attraction was the Cheng Ho Tea House.

Tea was served at RM 20 per pot.

We also attended a soap Opera about Cheng Ho sailing to Melaka during the Ming Dynasty. ( About 350 years ago )

While talking to the tea lady, we came to know she is a Teo Chew too. ( Mother Teo Chew, Father Hockkian ) We were very happy to talk teo chew to a KaKiNan in Melaka.

Cheng Ho was castrated. And he became a Tai Chieng.

Dinner was taken at the road side stall. Chinese foods prepared in Nyonya style. It was well prepared and we enjoyed the food very much.

This is the Nyonya restaurant that we had dinner the second night.
Food were also chinese food but prepared in Nyonya style. We were able to have pork here.
During the day, we went sight seeing, the A Famosa - which is a fort built by the Portugal Government, is one of the must visit site.

This church at the town centre is another building left over by the European invaders.

At the Jonker Street, we came to this ToTo shop, and guest what ?

We bought Meng Loon's car number, 5073 came out straight on the 08 March 2009 draw, starter at RM 200, but.... in Magnum 4D counter.

We surveyed Jonker Street before the Pasar Malam started.

We took this photo sitting on the Ching Emperor's throne.
This throne is in the chicken rice shop, so we have to take the chicken rice, and then we take photo on the throne.
At night, this was taken infront of the Portugal ship displayed on the sea side.

At the Jonker Street Pasar Malam.

There was chinese kunfu man selling medicine , with Huang Fair Hong back ground music, this attracted many Mat Salleh. They all sit on the road side in a row. ( On the left hand side of Meng Loon who was busy taking photos )
